| コメント(0)

Hello Everyone!

I decided to start a monthly recommendation post of books I have read or currently reading.

If you are familiar with Chicken Soup for the Soul, this book is from the same title but it focuses on "Finding Your Happiness".

Title: Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find Your Happiness

Author: Collection of Stories ( Various Author)

Pages: 380 pages

Short Introduction: 101 Inspirational Stories about finding your Purpose, Passion, and Joy

I pick up this book in the hopes of getting out of my listless ways. I read 2-3 stories a day and it really is taking effect. The over all vibe of the book is very comforting. Reading personal stories of people from different walks of life, various ages, and learning how they give meaning to the word "happiness" is very assuring.

It made me realise that i'm not the only one feeling what i'm feeling and going through trying times. There are a lot of people out there who are going through worse but are still trying their best to move forward and be better.

One story that stuck with me was "The Great Thanksgiving Challenge". To sum it up, it's about two women( with a habit of complaining) who had an encounter with a homeless person and started realizing how fortunate they are with what they have. They decided to make a challenge; with every complain they have they need to remember something that they are thankful for. They decided to write it down in a notebook with every complaint is a thing to be thankful for. As week progress both of them noticed that they started to complain less and be more grateful.

I think it's an important lesson that I needed to learn. Be grateful with what I have, happiness begins with contentment.

What is a Game Day?

| コメント(0)

Game Day is somehow a reward system that the school has been doing for a long time now.

Students do challenge books and as a reward for finishing an entire challenge (we have blue, pink, red, yellow, green... challenges) they get a game day.

During game days, students do their usual routines but instead of having lesson proper they get to choose 2-3 games to play.

It's good to give students something to look forward to after they finish a particular set of lesson. It works as a good motivation.

State of Mind

Hello!

I want to share with you the things that I do to cope,

these are the things that ususally lifts me up when I feel down.

If you have read my first blog entry in here you would know that moving here was a big jump for me. Being here for a holiday is different from being here for employment.

It requires quite an adjustment and i'm slowly finding my balance.

The right amount of everything work, play, and music.

Three factors that are helping me keep my sanity; music, driving, food, and onsen (hot spring).

(I mostly listen to BTS, you should check them out. Their song lyrics are amazing)

(with food I can pretty much anything but here some of what I enjoyed most)

70790198_912292259142954_6301051515285012480_n.jpg(being on the road and driving somewhere has always been a source of comfort for me)

One more important thing I have learned is that we have be careful with who we surround ourselves with.

I am trying my best to start surrounding myself with people who gives out positive energy and people who genuinely wants to be with me just because they want to be with me.

I feel like I have had enough negativity in the past and I don't want them anymore.

As much as possible, I only make time for those who brightens up my dull light.

Classroom Environment

How we arrange our classroom is very important; such as, placing posters, storing toys and board games.

Even the lighting and room temperature should be considered, students need to feel comfortable for them to learn effectively.

We have to make sure to provide a good learning environment for our students.

(e.g. fruits and vegetables)

Personally I think that grouping posters is important, poster with the same topic should be placed side by side as it will be easier for the students to figure out their relations.

Alphabet cut-outs(both capital and small letters) and photo examples are also a must have in a classroom, it helps students familiarize with the alphabets faster.

I think a good classroom is something that is more informative and less distracting, it should provide comfort and ease for both the teacher and the learners.

Board games and card games are good reinforcement for learning english.

There are a lot of board games and card games we can choose from; however, we have to make sure that these games are suitable for our students age.

a3.jpg

Some games are too hard or too complicated for 1st graders but are too easy for high schoolers, so we must know our students level and find appropriate games for them.

a2.jpg

We have to make sure that we know how to play these games for us to facilitate them and effectively use them as learning materials.

a4.jpg

Teaching the students key phrases to use while playing is important.

a1.jpg

Some of these key phrases are as follows:

let's play

my turn

your turn

next

pass

draw a card

Aside from these key phrases we can also make students speak while they play.

a7.jpg

For example in playing UNO cards they have to mention the color and number of the card that they put down, day "draw one" every time they draw one card, and say the actions for special cards such as "skip", "reverse", "take two cards", "plus for cards", and "flip".

Board games and card games are something that students always look forward  to.

They have fun and they're learning at the same time.

Do you have a favourite board or card game?

Reading is a Healthy Habit

| コメント(0)

Living in the age of technological advances we often spend our time

either watching videos online or mindlessly scrolling through our social media feed.

In which some studies show to be unhealthy both physically and mentally.

So instead of developing unhealthy habits we should channel our energy into picking up healthier habits.

One perfect option is reading.

book2.jpg

Reading is a much healthier option and it helps improve our mental health.

It improves our memory, widens our vocabulary, and enhances our imagination.

There are a lot of materials you can choose from: magazines, comic books, fiction, and more.

Pick something you are really interested in and it will be easier to read.
