Spotlight: Teacher Miku

Hi, i'm teacher Miku. I'm half japanese and half Filipino.

I grew up in japan until I was 16 years old, then I went to the Philippines to finish my studies.

I finished Bachelors of Secondary Education major in Mathematics.

It was great experience studying in the Philippines because the environment I grew up in and the Philippines are so different.

I learned not only about education, but how to be thankful about everything I had growing up and living in a first world country.

Let's start February with these Quotes

To kick off February, I want to share these words I keep close to my heart and my thoughts about them.

These are words that always makes me think and makes me want to be better. 

Allow me to share 3 quotes from a Phenomenal Woman, Maya Angelou.

 

1. "You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don't make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can't take their eyes off you."

There are times that I fall into a slump because of my finances that I forget why I do what I do. It often leads me to think that I can't seem to accomplish anything no matter how hard I try. Thus, these quote is what drags me back up. It reminds me of why I am here, and that if I focus more on doing it with love, accomplishment will follow. Life isn't just about money and accomplishment is not always about how fat your bank account is. 

2. "The desire to reach for the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise."

I've always thought that there is no greater achievement than touching the hearts of people around you. 

3. "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

Words will fade but how you make people feel will always stay. Let's be careful with how we treat people. A little kindess could go a long way.

Have a wonderful February and I hope these words can touch your hearts as well.

Hello! I hope you are all having a good start to your year.

Here is how mine went so far...

IMG-1231.jpgWe went to a few elementary schools and gave out flyers for MML Fukushima.

IMG-1346.JPGI had the chance to talk about my country, The Philippines, in front of

Japanese to English interpreters in Fukushima.

I finally tried the famous Zunda Shake, <3

We also had a meeting about our volunteer work in a Special School.

I am so excited to meet the kids there. :D

So far, these are the important things that happened in the first month of this year.

Christmas Parties 2019

To end this year we celebrated with a two Christmas Parties for our Jumonji and Omagari classes.

It was just a simple gathering. We brought food to share, prepared gifts to exchange, and played BINGO.

The students came with their parents. It was nice to see them have fun and it warmed my heart to see that everybody left with a huge smile on their faces.

クリスマス・パーティーになりました。ウエンディー先生も、教室で初めてのクリスマスを楽しんだそうです。

Game Day: Monopoly

IMG-9183.jpgWe have game days everytime the students complete a challenge or a unit. This week we've had a couple of game days. Monopoly is one of the games we play with the older students. The rules are pretty simple and the students enjoy this game so much. The learning target while playing is for the students to count in english and to use key english phrases.

They also have to read english instructions and actions. 5th and 6th graders enjoy playing this game.

Craft Week <3

Guess what time is it?

yeeeeep! It's craft time!!

Students always look forward to craftday, for the previous one we did melted straw coasters.

This time we made stress balls.

The students made a variety of stress balls, some made cute ones and others made monster looking ones.

It's a simple thing to do. I will break it down for you guys.

Materials Needed:

> balloons

>all purpose flour

>scissors

>funnel

> empty plastic bottle

>eye stickers(optional)

>colored markers

How to do it:

You will need 3 layers of balloons for each stress ball, to make sure that the flour won't spill.

1. inflate all the balloons to strectch them out

2. using the funnel pour some flour to the platic bottle (depending on how soft you want the stress ball to be)

3.Inflate 1 balloon and attach it to the bottle, flip the bottle to transfer the flour from the bottle to the balloon

5. slowly release the air from the balloon, then cover it with two more layers of balloon

6. Decorate the balloon in your liking

That's it you have your very own stress ball. The students really had a fun time making their own stress balls.
